“Looking for me, Robin?”

“Yes, I am. Thank you for coming, Max.”

“No problem. So what can I do for ya?”

“You used to be an explorer before you came to Andalusst, no? There’s a job we don’t usually give to newbies, but since you have some extensive experience so I think you can handle it. You really to do your first errand for me?”

“Anything, anything. So what is it?”

“Before we continue, uh… Are you scared of Ghost-types? I’ve heard you have a bit of a phobia about them.”

“…Cassidy told you about that haunted house, didn’t he?”

“He didn’t, but it already spread all across town. So… are you still scared of them?”

“I’m not scared of them, I’m just scared of the pranks they played. Why’d you ask?”

“It’s because the job needs you to handle some lost Ghost-types. Don’t worry, they won’t bite, but may rather seem… lost, if you know what I mean. What I need you to do is to guide those newly formed Ghost-types right outside the city to us so we can help them to get started in their new life as a Ghost...”

* * * * *

I found my way through the forest alone under the moonlight. I got lucky that night that the bright moonlight from a beautiful full moon illuminated the way just enough for me not to hit something. After a quick stroll I found the “gateway” Robin described—Honehenge.

According to Robin, Honehenge is this strange gateway-like ruin where Ghost-types tends to end up when they were formed after their spirit wondered aimlessly for God-knows-how-long. What I was supposed to do there was to guide whoever walked through the gateway back to Andalusst in one piece. At first I didn’t understand how hard it could be, but after I asked Coroline and Hiro a tad bit more about this job, both of them pointed out the one thing I’ve always forgotten about Ghost-types during their reincarnation:

Amnesia.

I began looking around the ruins for any sign of life and afterlife in the area. Ghost-types has a tendency of scaring the hell outta others at their least expected moments, both intentionally and unintentionally. I was looking around when I made a U-turn around a tree, and I ended up meeting my eyes to that of a Rotom’s up close and personal.

“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”

We both screamed our throat out when we looked at each other. The flinch sent me a few paces back and almost lost my balance. I panted heavily and tried to keep my cool. When I finally got myself back together, I calmly looked back at the Rotom.

“I’m so sorry,” said the Rotom. “Are you alright?”

“I’m okay, I’m okay…” I replied. “That really just caught me completely off-guard.”

That Rotom looks nowhere like he panicked at all when he went through the gate. It’s just like he already got used to something like that. From what I’ve heard before, they are supposed to be lost and in panic with the loss of memory.

“You’re not the only one,” Rotom chuckled. “By the way, I’m Wesley.”

“I’m Max,” I replied. “You seems to be in high spirits, did you just…”

“…Went through that gate? Yeah, I did.”

“Then how is it that you don’t seem lost or panic or anything?”

“I don’t know,” Wesley said. “Maybe it’s because I accepted the fact that I’m dead?”

I was stunned. I couldn’t believe he just said that like it’s another day of his normal life.

“I’ve kinda forgotten how and when I died, though,” Wesley continued. “The last thing I remembered was my name, and the fact that I’m here.”

“You don’t remember which Pokémon you’re used to be, right?” I asked.

“Well, I don’t… think I do, but hell, who cares?”

I was in a loss of words. I’ve never seen a Ghost-type who just went through reincarnation being so cheerful like that. At least that means I didn’t have to worry about handling a distressed spirit.

“Anyhow… what are you going to do now, Wesley?” I asked.

“I don’t know… It’s like I’m starting my life all over again… and it is,” he replied. “I really don’t know what to do at the moment…”

“I’m actually tasked to escort any newly formed Ghosts back to Andalusst City, that’s why I’m here,” I remarked. “So how ‘bout we head there and let them help you out a bit?”

After a bit of thinking, Wesley nodded. “Sounds good,” he said, “At least it’s better than staying out here like headless Torchic.”

I laughed and led the way back to Andalusst, where I hope Wesley can start a life anew there.

“So, how did it go?” Robin asked.

“It was… a bit unexpected,” I replied. “There actually are Ghosts retaining most of their memories when they form.”

“That depends on how long their spirit has drifted before finding their way there,” Robin’s face showed a mild smile behind his hood. “There are some extreme cases where Ghosts retained all of their memory, like Ambassador Ayami. But that only happened because her death was arranged.”

“Huh…” I murmured. “I wonder how that feels like? Drifting aimlessly as a spirit…”

“Well… you wanna try it now?” Robin sneered slyly and activiated his Shadow Claw.

“ROBIN!!” I snapped.

The Benette flinched. “Relax! It’s just a joke! Geez…”

It’ll take him a while before he realizes I can’t take jokes so well and I have necrophobia.
Errand: #11
Client: Robin
Errand Dates: Oct. 30 to Nov. 3, 2014
Handler: Max of Team Eurasia
Objective: Escorting newly formed Ghost-types to Andalusst.
Reward: 1 Star Coin(s)

(Surprise) Cameos:
Coroline--Team Eureka by cinostheechidna
Hiro--Team Might and Magic by Mytew

Max's first errand. (Yay!) A part of Max's common sense "collapsed" when he learned Wesley's memory retained. And he also showed how sensitive he is to jokes. But of course, Robin's "joke" is death related and Max just can't take that.

Oh, and maybe, just maybe, that I might add Wesley into Team Eurasia in the future. :)

Thank you for the cameo! Unfortunately I'm not a part of pmdu anymore, I've moved on to my own pmd group. But it's the thought that counts, right? Again, thank you, I appreciate it. :D
